Show us something puzzling.
I couldn't figure this thing, spotted on a street in Zürich. It's a cement dog, with a chain. The chain is attached to a hook on the wall.
Then it was explained to me, that this is a sign for a dog parking lot of sorts - where owners are encouraged to tie up their dogs before entering a store.
Ah so.
You will notice that the 'parking lot' is empty though.
I feel so incredibly stressed and fatigued right now.
I think it was defrosting the gigantic freezer that did it. I can still smell Freezer on me. Ugh.
That or my Powerbook's system disk dying on me. Thank Gawd for backups.
I think this kind of post is what Vox is for.
(whine.)
I love the one-click changing of the design. Love it! On my real other blogs I agonize so much about the design that it becomes too cumbersome to change them around. I am not totally loving the drawing of the fennel top in the banner on my food blog, but changing it would mean so many steps, and possibly changing the whole layout, that I've kept it as is. For months. Ugh.
I do hope that Vox will have user-contributed (Vox approved, of course) layouts someday too. Let's do a Vox-Zen Garden! I'll contribute a few!
I think that Vox is very easy to use, and non-threatening to a non-techie person. So I've been hoarding the invites I have to send to non-blogging friends. I mean, my blogging friends already have blogs so if they want a Vox invite...it would just be getting another blogging person in here. I want my non-blogging people in here.
The problem is that they don't want them.
I've sent out two 'standard' invites so far, one to a non-blogging person I really want to see start blogging, and another to someone who already has a blog, but it's about a specific topic so I thought he might be interested in this sort of free-form blog. Neither has activated their invites yet.
The only one who has activated her invite is my sister...but she's yet to do anything with it. (though she could just be busy). My other sister, who is quite active on MySpace, is not even interested.
And so far I seem to see mostly people who have other blogs who are using Vox as a supplement to, or replacement for, an existing blog around here. Of course, Vox is still just in preview.
But I'm wondering now if the ease of use of a blogging platform is not the main thing preventing non-blogging people from starting a blog. The two invitees who haven't activated, are both very techie people. But they aren't really bloggers.
I've asked some other non-blogging people, both techie and non-techie types, if they want to get a 'really to use, pretty blog' but they've been like 'nah not really...'.
Hmmm.
So far I am loving Vox. It's so easy to just write here. I have to almost hold myself back from posting too much.
I love that I can be spontaneous and not have to worry about being on topic or my reader or whatever like I have to on my other blogs. No one could be reading and I don't care! I can say fuck you and not worry about offending! Yay.
And it's real purty. (though i wouldn't mind being able to customize, CSS nerd that I am.)
They need to allow HTML though. But that's been said before.
This is from the perspective of someone who has never had a LiveJournal (hate the interface) and only has a MySpace page because some of my friends/family have MySpaces and I can't get to their pages without being a member.
